WHY PASHMINA SHAWLS ARE EXPENSIVE?

Pashmina is an exquisite craft, a handmade process without any interference of machine, processed only in Kashmir. It is the most luxurious fabric on earth. Here are some of the reasons which make cashmere pashmina shawls are expensive. 

  1. Rareness: Pashmina is the precious fibre obtained from Pashm wool comes from the Capra hircus goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayan Mountains. They shed their undercoat in spring season once a year. 
  2. Confined Production: As pashmina fibre is obtained from a specific breed found only in higher altitudes of Ladakh and they naturally shed their undercoat once in a year in spring. One goat shed approximately 80-170 grams (3-6 ounces of fibre). 
  3. Intense long-chain labour: Pashmina production starts from sheering the goats to separating and sorting each strand of the hair individually by hand. After which, it goes through the weavers, embroiders, mediators, wholesaler, retailers and so on. It consumes days even months, years to prepare a single pashmina shawl. 
  4. Declining in weavers: The numbers of weavers associated with the art of pashmina are declining day by day due to less infrastructure, more time consuming and new generation moved in metro cities.
  5. The royalty of handcrafts: Pashmina derived from the roots of hand weaved skilled artisan and to complete a classic it will take months and years according to the product. Royalty and legacy of pashmina are enhanced by the Kings and Queens from ancient time and presently pashmina is the diamond fibre to all of the world.
