HOW PASHMINA SHAWL IS MADE?
Pashmina shawls are manufactured with ultimate elaborateness. It takes hours together to fringe and design each exclusive shawls, scarfs and wraps.
Following are the steps involved in the Manufacturing of Pashmina Shawls.
1. Collection of Raw Material: In spring goats shed their undercoat which is collected by the Changpa through combing the goat. Subsequently, that raw material is treated by stretching and cleaning to remove all the dirt. Then it is soaked for a short duration (few days) in a blend of rice and water to give the extreme softness.
2. Hand Spinning, Weaving and Dyeing Process: The wool is collected and undergoes the spinning process done by hand as it is too delicate for mechanical spinning and weaving process. Hence Pashmina is carefully hand spun on a spinning wheel know as Charkha in the local language. Later weaving is done on handlooms using a shuttle which itself is an art. Single shawls take 4-5 days to weave on a handloom. Afterwards, Dyeing is performed by hands. Azo-free and metal dyes are used during the process to make a complete eco- friendly shawls.
3. Washing and finishing: Finally Shawls are washed gently in a cold, mild detergent solution to remove dirt and dye and improve the appearance and texture of the fabric. The end product is smooth, refined, strengthened and durable Shawls.
